The diaries that Henry W. Schweigert kept from 1869 — 1881 depict the daily life of a Pennsylvania German farmer, student, teacher, and father. Illustrating the everyday life activities of Schweigert, the diaries also highlight the social history of the 1860s — 1880s.
At present, only the diaries for 1869 have been transcribed. Curious readers may view the unfinished diaries in their original handwritten format, however. The transcriptions for these years will be posted as they are completed.
